Maruha bought 50% shares of Austral Fisheries

Dec 4th, 2013: Maruha bought 50% shares of Austral Fisheries (an Australian company)

The world biggest seafood company, Maruha Nichiro Seafoods, has bought 50% shares of Austral Fisheries (one of the biggest fishery companies in Australia). The news has been announced on the Austral Fisheries website as follows.

"Austral Fisheries Pty Ltd advise that Maruha Nichiro Holdings Inc. of Japan has today purchased the 50% shareholding in Austral Fisheries Pty Ltd, formerly owned by Pescanova SA of Spain.

This change of shareholding follows a very difficult year for Pescanova and marks the end of a long and successful association between Austral Fisheries and Spain’s largest fishing company.

The Australian shareholders in Austral Fisheries are delighted to now partner with the world’s largest seafood company, Maruha Nichiro, and are confident that this new alliance will continue to build on the solid base that already exists."

Although the amount is undisclosed, there's report that the value of this transaction is EURO 29. 5 million.
